Editor's Note, 10 October 2026: New review, from the field notes of Ryan Williams and John Pulham.
Near silent and under 30 lb: the inverter for electronics, radios and chargers, not appliances. It scores 83 out of 100 and ranks #8 in our best inverter generators guide as our best 1,000 w inverter.
Honda EU1000i
- Output: 1,000 W starting, 900 W running
- Our noise reading: 42 to 50 dBA
- Our runtime: up to 7 hr at 25% on 0.6 gal
- Weight: 29.5 lb (Honda manual)
Bottom Line : Near silent and under 30 lb: the inverter for electronics, radios and chargers, not appliances.
Pros
- 42 to 50 dBA: wind drowns it out at 25 ft
- Under 30 lb
- Benchmark clean power for audio and medical gear
- Pairs for 1,800 W
Cons
- Hard 900 W ceiling
- Trips on coffee makers and microwaves
In the Field
Our testers ran the Honda EU1000i at an overlanding base camp, a ham radio field day and a trail camera charging station. It powered radio transceivers, a soldering iron, DSLR chargers, laptops and LED camp lights.
It read 42 to 50 dBA, and at 25 ft the wind drowned it out entirely. Its power is the benchmark for clean output: high-end audio and medical gear ran with zero line noise.
It ran 3.8 hours at its full 900 W and up to 7 hours at a quarter load on 0.6 gallons. Paired with a second EU1000i it made 1,800 W.
Where It Asks Something of You
The 900 W running ceiling is strict. A coffee maker or a microwave trips it instantly, so it is a generator for electronics, not appliances.
Spec Sheet vs Our Test
42 to 50 dB(A). Honda quotes 42 to 50 dB(A), and that is what we read. It is the quietest generator in our inverter guide.
3.0 to 6.8 hours on 0.6 gallons. Honda quotes up to 6.8 hours. Our testers logged up to about 7 hours at a quarter load, right at the top of Honda's range.
Weighs only 29 pounds. Honda's listing says 29 lb and its owner's manual 29.5 lb. Either way, it stows in a tight trunk or hatch.
Should You Buy the Honda EU1000i?
Buy it if you charge electronics, run radios or camera gear, and want near silence and the cleanest power you can get.
Skip it if you want to run kitchen appliances: step up to the Honda EU2200i. On a tight budget for charging only, the GENMAX GM1200i is lighter still.
