There’s no question about the fact that Yamaha generators are some of the top performers in the market.

No wonder, when we were testing out the Yamaha ef2400ishc, we were simply blown away by its outstanding features and great performance.

Honestly, there’s a lot to like here including superb engine performance, first-rate efficiency, and excellent safety features.

To start with, the generator is extremely durable and looks smart without being too flashy.

Not only that but even with the power delivery on the high end, this is an extremely quiet performer.

Just combine that with a compact design and you get a highly reliable power source for outdoor lovers.

To top that, the easy-to-use ef2400ishc is further boosted by a super three-year warranty from Yamaha.

Yamaha has kept the price on the higher side, but consider this

This is a hi-tech generator delivering steady power and TopNotch fuel efficiency at all times.

At the end of the day, you definitely get your money’s worth.

We can confidently say, Yamaha don’t compromise on quality in any way with the 2400ishc.

For us, it’s truly one of the best choices in this category that’s perfect as the TopNotch Editor’s Choice.

So there you have it, here’s our verdict. Which will be on your shopping list? Is it going to be the Yamaha ef2400ishc? Or you simply can’t go wrong with our Best Value Choice the Champion Generator (3800W).

Our Analysis, Comparisons & Test Results

To find out the top 3 generators from the 10 products we selected, we went for a week-long camping trip in our team RV.

For the next stage, we tested them again in the backyard of one of my colleagues.

We’ve chosen the standard metrics (details in the next section) based on the most important features any generator of this category should have.

Finally, we analyzed the performance of the ef2400ishc under each of these metrics and compared it against the other 9 competitors.

Keep in mind, Yamaha also has a selection of other very competent generators, including the Yamaha Generator ef2400is in its product range.

But we chose the ef2400ishc as we felt it’s the most rugged and quiet of them all.

So what else did we find out?

Let me share the details with you in the next sections here.

Noise Output

The team at TopNotch prefer peaceful camping sites – that’s THE thing we agree on!

So, noisy generators are a big turn-off for us.

However, during this testing trip, we dealt with a variety of models with a wide range of noise outputs.

We chose sites without any sound restrictions.

Coming to the ef2400ishc, it’s quiet performance is ahead of most of the field.

The fact is, the noise levels of any generator will vary according to the load you put on it.

But for this model, even at higher loads, the noise levels didn’t exceed the 60dB mark.

With the load levels at around 25%, Yamaha estimates the noise should be within 53dB.

In our tests, this came out pretty accurate.

Also, we tested this generator at 50% load and set it out at a distance of 20 feet.

And guess what…

The noise level was only as loud as our conversation.

Undoubtedly, this is one of the best choices for keeping the noise down, without compromising on power output.

If you use the device in your home, it won’t be a problem for your neighbors.

I have to admit, the TopNotch team had a real debate while comparing the yamaha ef2400ishc vs honda eu2000i under this metric.

In the end…

…we gave both generators the same score and they shared the top spot.

Power Output

Let’s start with the amount of juice the Yamaha ef2400ishc delivers.

You get a surge wattage of 2400 watts and a continuous wattage of 2000 watts.

Is it sufficient?

Of course, that’ll depend on your power needs.

However, it’s sufficient to power up a refrigerator, a microwave, a sump pump, an oven, a TV, and an RV.

The important thing is, this is an inverter generator and the circuitry also uses Pulse Width Modulation.

Bottom Line:

This keeps the harmonic distortion at a minimum and is perfect for sensitive electronic devices.

Note: Yamaha doesn’t recommend this 2400 generator for running air-conditioners.

As per the specs, the 1.6-gallon fuel tank delivers over 8 hours of power at 25% load.

While testing, we used it to run the television in the RV, a microwave, some portable lights, and also for charging a laptop and two mobile phones.

Surprisingly enough, it still had some juice left after four hours.

So we carried on!

Being a quiet model we had no problem in keeping it running for the night, connected to my LED lights.

It lasted another two hours before running out of gas.

In truth, Yamaha ef2400ishc is not a gas-hungry generator at all.
And the main reason behind that is…
The efficient smart throttle technology for Yamaha.

It automatically reduces the motor speed depending on the load and the end result is top-class fuel efficiency.

In essence, we feel this generator will be perfect for anything within 1800 Watts.

In case you need 2000 Watts constantly, try the Honda EU3000iS, our TopNotch Top Pick.

Ease Of Use

For first time users or older people, ease of use of a generator is a super important factor during an emergency situation.

The good thing is, even though the ef2400ishc is loaded with advanced features, Yamaha has been able to keep it simple to operate.

At the same time, it’s incredibly versatile.

Beyond that, there are 2 AC outlets and a single DC outlet.

As a result, you can charge 3 items at a go.

On the other hand, it doesn’t have a 30 amp outlet.

But that can be easily rectified with an adapter.

What else?

The recoil start works smoothly and we found the generator starting up with a single pull every time we used it – great.

Kudos to Yamaha for keeping the control panel design simple and adding a fuel gauge.

Now, you can check the fuel level at a glance.

Now hold on, there’s even more…

…the generator also has a low oil warning system to prevent any damage to the engine.

Now, we’ve found draining the residual oil can be an issue with many generators.

But, not so here.

Quite simply, use the petcock valve to drain the oil before you store the device for long periods.

The back panel is removable making the interiors easy to access.

There’s just one thing we really missed here – a USB port.

This Yamaha 2400 inverter generator is super simple to operate.

Durability

Ever noticed how many versatile products lack durability?

Thankfully, that’s not the case with any of the Yamaha 2400 generators, including this one.

Firstly, the body of the generator is made from aluminum which gives it sufficient rigidity but keeps the weight under control.

Rough handling isn’t an issue for this bad boy.

Secondly, we have to talk about the superb Yamaha engine this generator houses…

The reliable OHV (overhead valve) engine is air-cooled and delivers 5.5 HP.

Without a doubt, this engine will give you years of super reliable performance.

Here’s another bit of good news…

The engine cylinders are lined with cast iron to improve performance over the long haul.

Sounds impressive, right?

On top of that, it meets EPA and CARB regulations, so emissions won’t be a problem for you.

As you may know, there’s one vital factor – ‘great brand reputation’ – which Yamaha has in abundance.

So, when the Yamaha ef2400ishc packs three years of warranty, including part defects and workmanship, it can mean only one thing.

Total peace of mind for you.

At the end of the day, this is a generator you can carry literally anywhere without worrying about its durability.

Weight & Portability

This Yamaha generator isn’t a lightweight model in the true sense of the word. But – when it comes to the weight to power ratio, it’s definitely among the top performers in this metric.

Let’s come to the facts.

At 75 pounds, this isn’t something you’ll want to carry around alone…

Good job then that, the dual handles are well designed to allow two people to carry it around.

The overall dimensions of the ef2400ishc are 21x17x18 inches.

The compact footprint makes for super easy storage.

And one more point to add…

We do like generators that don’t vibrate even at higher loads.

In our tests, it remained very stable even on rough surfaces at higher loads.

If good looks matter to you then this Yamaha 2400 generator will definitely be an attractive portable package.

Sadly, Yamaha doesn’t add a pair of wheels to this generator.

So after analyzing all the factors, we placed the product at the third spot under this metric.

Accessories

I have to admit, I love it when a brand surprises me with quality accessories – in the package.

It just rarely happens.

Among all the generators we took out, only the Champion 3800 Generator really impressed us with its accessories.

So how did this Yamaha 2400w inverter generator fare in this metric?

Frankly, not very well.

Take a look.

Here’s the thing.

Considering the hefty price tag of the 2400 series generators we expected more from this device.

But, we only got the Yamaha ef2400ishc manual and a 12 volt DC cable. There was no wheel kit or even a package of lube oil.

You need to buy all these items separately.

By and large, the manual has the right level of details with safety instructions and operational notes.

The cable is also a practical addition for long road trips and it can charge marine as well as automotive batteries.

Still, this is one metric where Yamaha could have done much better.
