Editor's Note, 10 October 2026: New review, from the field notes Ryan Williams and John Pulham submitted on 31 August 2026.
Our testers ran the PowerSmart 3800-Watt Dual Fuel on an off-grid cabin framing site and at a tailgate, and it ran a table saw and an air compressor on budget money. It scores 72 out of 100 and ranks #10 in our best quiet generators guide as our best budget quiet generator.
PowerSmart 3800-Watt Dual Fuel Inverter
- Output: 3,300 W gas, 3,100 W propane
- Our noise reading: about 59 dBA
- Our runtime: 11 hr at 25% load on gas
- Manufacturer: PowerSmart
Bottom Line : PowerSmart's current budget inverter adds propane, a CO sensor and a 30 amp twist-lock outlet to what the 3600 offered.
Pros
- 3300 running watts on gas
- Gas or propane
- 30A twist-lock RV outlet
- CO sensor and low oil shutdown
Cons
- Likely loud at full load, like the 3600
- Two year warranty, shorter than rivals
- About 59 dBA in our test
In the Field
Ryan and John put the PowerSmart to work on an off-grid cabin framing site, running a table saw and a small air compressor, then took it to a tailgate to run a heater and a TV.
It read about 59 dBA, and it ran 11 hours at a quarter load on gas. Switching between gas and propane was smooth: the fuel dial moves from one to the other without fuss.
For the money, that is a lot of generator. Our testers rated it excellent value per watt, which is the whole point of a budget dual fuel inverter.
Where It Asks Something of You
At about 59 dBA it is not one of the quiet ones; in our quiet generator guide it ranks last on noise for that reason.
Its 30 amp outlet is an L5-30R twist-lock, not the TT-30R most RV cords use, so an RV needs an adapter.
Spec Sheet vs Our Test
3,300 running watts on gas, 3,100 on propane. PowerSmart rates it at 3,800 starting and 3,300 running watts on gas. On the framing site it ran a table saw and a small compressor, which is the kind of motor load that rating is for.
59 dBA at 25% load in Eco Mode. PowerSmart quotes 59 dBA at a quarter load, and that is what our testers heard. Honest, but louder than the Honda and WEN inverters in the same guide.
8 hours at 25% on 1.3 gallons, up to 24 hours on propane. PowerSmart quotes 8 hours at a quarter load on gas. Our testers logged 11 hours at a quarter load, longer than the maker claims. They did not time a full propane bottle, so the 24 hour figure is the maker's.
30A twist-lock outlet. The panel has a 120V 30A L5-30R twist-lock, a 20A duplex, a 12V port and two USB ports. For an RV, that twist-lock means an adapter rather than a straight plug-in.
Should You Buy the PowerSmart 3800-Watt Dual Fuel Inverter?
Buy it if you want dual fuel and 3,300 running watts for budget money, mostly for tools, tailgates or backup.
Skip it if quiet matters: in our quiet guide the WEN 3600 Dual Fuel and the Honda EU2200i are both quieter. If you want an RV outlet you can plug straight into, the WEN has a TT-30R.
