Our Verdict: Coolis 150wh Portable Solar Generator
Now, Coolis is one brand we’d never tried out before – it was brand new to us.
But here’s the thing…
During our testing, it started to turn the heads of some of the non-believers in the TopNotch team.
Frankly, it’s not on par with the TopNotch Top Picks when it comes to overall performance.
But, as a portable power source that’s great for campsites and road-trips, it’s pretty impressive.
The fact is, the Coolis 150Wh portable generator keeps things simple and effective.
The first thing we noticed is the interesting design.
It delivers both DC and AC output to power up a variety of appliances. The inverter technology gives a clean power supply for all your gadgets.
In addition, like most of its competitors, you can recharge it in three different ways – including using a solar panel.
Next, it also has an LED screen and a battery management system.
Campers will dig the lightweight design and the multiple connecting ports.
I have to admit, as an affordable and portable solar battery pack, it’ll serve its purpose perfectly.
Still, it’s not the best in this category when it comes to power delivery.
In reality, solar charging of the battery takes a long time.
You’ll find that the AC wall charger is the best choice for this solar power inverter generator.
Also, the overall efficiency isn’t the best you’ll get at this range.
So how did the device perform in our tests?
Let’s find out.

Analysis Comparisons and Test Results
We took some pretty popular products on our testing trip.
Then there were some not so well known ones which really pushed the boundaries in terms of performance and features.
This Coolis 150Wh portable inverter generator does hit the right notes in some areas.
However, it simply couldn’t match the battery performance of a device like the Jackery 240 our Best Value pick.
Now, remember you’ll need to buy solar panels for off-grid use of this solar battery.
To put it bluntly that won’t help the overall price to performance ratio.
So let’s check out the details of this device.
Value for Money
One thing’s for sure, people needing a small and compact option will find this solar power inverter generator pretty handy.
The battery power output is on the lower side, but that shouldn’t be a problem for light users.
Value for Money Rating
We can charge it in multiple ways – a feature we consider essential for any solar-powered inverter generator.
One more thing…
You get a wall charger and a 12V DC car charger in the package.
The overall durability isn’t on par with our chart toppers like the Goal Zero Yeti 1400 and Goal Zero Yeti 400.
But it’s not too bad either.
And the best part…
The Coolis portable power inverter weighs just 4.4 pounds. It’s one of the lightest devices we tested. On top of that, it’s so easy to use. A great choice for first-time buyers.
In addition – you get the battery management system for overall safety. Also, the LCD screen keeps you updated with important running details.
The inverter technology keeps the output safe for all your sensitive electronics.
As usual, we took feedback from long-term users about the performance. It was mostly positive.
So when it comes to light usage, considering the price tag, we feel it offers very good value.
Now, if you already own solar panels, it’s an even better deal.
When it comes to power delivery, this power generator wasn’t one of our top performers.
Let’s start with the specs.
The 110V AC output delivers 100W while the 12V DC delivers 180W.
Output Power Rating
But there’s a catch…
It offers the best performance when the DC return is limited within 120 W.
When it comes to the AC, make sure you don’t exceed the 100 W limit.
The overall power supply was good enough for LED lamps, phones, laptops, and even for small TVs and fans.
Also, it’s good for powering CPAP machines.
We tested the Coolis generator by connecting a 50W laptop with it. It ran for around 2.5 hours.
We also hooked it up with the 60W refrigerator in our RV. It ran for slightly more than two hours.
Further, you can expect it to charge your smartphone close to a dozen times.
The only problem?
There are some losses in the inverterand the output efficiency isn’t as good as our Top Picks.
What about charging speeds?
We connected it with a 100W solar panel. But the charging speed was on the slower side even in bright sun.
On the other hand, connecting the portable generator with an AC wall socket produced way faster results. It was fully charged in 8 hours.
A car charger should take anywhere between 8 to 10 hours to fully charge the battery.
In case you’re looking for the best performers in this metric, try the Goal Zero Yeti 1400 or the Goal Zero Yeti 400.
Durability & Workmanship
Quite simply, this isn’t a product you could rely on for bulletproof durability like the Goal Zero Yeti 1400.
But it did stand its ground during our tests.
For starters, even though it’s very light, the carrying handle gives it a solid feel. The plastic build quality is good and there are rubber feet to keep it stable.
Durability & Workmanship Rating
It probably won’t survive a sharp drop…
But this can be said of most of the others we tested.
Also, Coolis offers a 12 months warranty.
And our long-term users were satisfied with the standard of customer service.
Here’s something interesting.
The portable generator comes with a universal input port. You’ll find it compatible with five other countries.
Now, apart from the dual USB ports, you also get three DC ports.
A very practical addition.
With the dimensions of 6.3 x 3.1 x 6.8 inches, storing it isn’t a problem.
The LCD panel makes using the product super easy.
Moreover, the display is also protected by a protective film in transit.
On top of that, you’ll find a light at the rear side of the portable generator. Another useful feature, but we wished it was a little stronger.
All in all, the overall design of the solar power generator got a thumbs up from the TopNotch team.
Dependability & Reliability
Honestly, there’s one aspect of the Coolis portable solar generator we loved.
The sheer number of accessories packed with it.
Other than the wall and car charger, you also get an MC4 adapter cable for connecting solar panels.
Dependability & Reliability Rating
The quality of the accessories was TopNotch. You’ll get years of service from them.
Now, the quality of the lithium polymer battery isn’t as good as the Goal Zero Yeti 1400.
But what about safety?
Glad you asked.
The Coolis solar power inverter generator has a battery management system. It guards the lithium polymer battery against power surges and overheating.
One more thing…
In case you exceed the load limits, it’ll shut down automatically. You’ll need to recharge it to get it working again.
Here’s another smart feature – the solar battery will switch to DC automatically once you exceed the 100W limit of the 110V AC output.
Note that overheating was not an issue with this inverter generator.
We connected with multiple electronics at the same time to stretch its capacity. The heat levels were well under control.
Lastly, we got overall positive feedback from the long term users.
In the end, the reliability of the product was as good as our Best Value pick, the Jackery 240.
One thing’s for sure. Most of our best solar generators will give you super quiet performance.
That’s a big advantage of solar power that we particularly dig.
Unfortunately, this is one metric under which the portable power station from Coolis underperformed.
While it’s far less noisy than the gas-powered generators, it was no match when compared with the Goal Zero Yeti 400 or the Jackery 240.
Let me explain.
Our Top Picks were super silent even when the battery was functioning at peak levels.
But the Coolis solar power inverter generator wasn’t quiet when we connected the battery with a solar panel. Most likely, this was caused by the voltage regulator working overtime.
Then again, there was some noise when it was delivering power to multiple electronics at the same time.
Having said that, this isn’t a generator that’ll keep your neighbors awake. It’s great for campsites where noise restrictions are in place.
However, it has miles to go before hitting the TopNotch top levels.
Our Final Verdict: Coolis 150wh Portable Solar Generator
Our Final Verdict Rating
Conclusion: Coolis 150wh Portable Solar Generator
This is the part where I sum up this review of the Coolis solar power inverter generator.
Make no mistake about it…
As an affordable and portable generator that can be charged using solar panels, it’s a great option.
But the point is, you need to keep your expectations within its limits.
Quite simply, you can’t expect the same level of efficiency and features as one of our Top Picks, like the Goal Zero Yeti 400.
Other than that, it’ll serve you well as a super-portable solar power inverter generator.
The battery power levels won’t bowl you over but it’ll be enough for your smaller electronics.
It has multiple connecting ports and is super easy to use.
The overall safety features are very good.
On top of that, it has some unique features…
Like an MC4 solar panel connector adapter cable in the package.
And a universal input that works in multiple countries – perfect for globe trotters.
In essence, it’s a good package, which just falls a little short of being a TopNotch chart-topper.
So that’s all about the Coolis solar-powered battery station.
We’ve done the hard work testing and putting this review together – now we hand over the baton to you to make your choice…
