Editor's Note, 10 October 2026: New review, from the field notes of Sean Williams and Ryan Williams, who ran it on RVs at Lake Tahoe, 6,225 ft up, in August 2026.
At 6,225 ft on Lake Tahoe, the GENMAX 5500W Dual Fuel ran a 15,000 BTU RV air conditioner and a high-draw microwave together, the only gas generator we ranked that managed both. It scores 83 out of 100 and ranks #7 in our best generators for RVs guide as our best overall for 30 amp travel trailers.
GENMAX 5500W Dual Fuel Inverter
- Output: 5,000 W running, as tested
- RV outlet: TT-30R (30 amp)
- Our noise reading: 62 dBA with the AC on
- Weight: about 105 lb as tested
Bottom Line : The most power of any gas generator we ranked: the AC and a microwave together at 6,225 ft. The trade is noise and weight.
Pros
- Ran the 15,000 BTU AC and a microwave together
- Most headroom at altitude of any gas unit
- TT-30R outlet, data center display, CO cut-off
- Dual fuel
Cons
- 62 dBA under AC load: the loudest we ranked
- Two people to load it
- Owners report a stiff pull cord if the battery runs down
At Lake Tahoe
Sean put its running power at roughly 3,900 W on gas at the lake, after the usual fifth lost to altitude. That headroom showed the moment the AC kicked on.
You can feel the extra punch over 4,500W units. When the A/C kicked on, the motor barely revved up.
Ryan Williams, Lead Tester
It started the 15,000 BTU air conditioner with no soft starter and kept a high-draw microwave running alongside it. No other gas generator we ranked ran a microwave on top of the AC at the lake.
Its 3.6 gallon tank ran 13 hours at light load, and it hooks up to an RV propane supply. The panel has a TT-30R outlet, a digital data center, electric start and a CO cut-off.
Where It Asks Something of You
It is the loudest generator we ranked under load: 62 dBA at 23 ft with the AC running hard. It is quiet at idle and revs up at full draw.
At about 105 lb as tested it rolls well on its wheels and collapsible handle, but it took two people to get it into the truck bed. The current model it links to is listed at 117.9 lb.
Owners report the pull cord feels stiff if the electric start battery is not kept charged over winter, so keep it on a charger in storage.
Spec Sheet vs Our Test
5,250 rated watts (current model). We tested the GM5500i at 5,000 running watts; the button goes to GENMAX's current 6000W dual fuel model, rated at 5,250. At altitude ours ran the AC and a microwave together, and the current model has a little more on paper.
As low as 62 dBA at 25% load. GENMAX quotes 62 dBA at a quarter load. We read 62 dBA at 23 ft under heavy AC load, so it is no louder than the maker says, but it is the loudest unit in our RV guide.
3.6 gallon tank and Low Idle mode. The tank is the same size on both models. We got 13 hours at light load, which puts it mid-pack for runtime; the extra power costs fuel.
CO detect. Both models shut the engine down if carbon monoxide builds up. It was on the unit we ran; we did not try to trigger it.
Lightweight design. GENMAX calls it lightweight. Ours was about 105 lb and the current model is listed at 117.9 lb. On wheels it moves easily; into a truck bed it is a two-person job.
Should You Buy the GENMAX 5500W Dual Fuel Inverter?
Buy it if you want to run the AC and the microwave together on 30 amp, especially up high, without paying for a battery bank. No other gas generator we ranked did that at Tahoe.
Skip it if quiet comes first: the Westinghouse iGen4500DF was 4 dBA quieter under the same AC load, and the Honda EU3200i 10 dBA quieter. One note: we tested the GM5500i, and the button goes to GENMAX's current 6000W dual fuel model with the same tank, display and CO cut-off.
