Our score: 75/100. See how it compares in Best Pop-Up and Instant Tents (2026): 10 Tested for Rain, Wind and Pitch Time

A visiting father stood fully upright in the CORE 9 Person Instant Cabin under a 78 inch peak, and the 126.0 sq ft floor is the biggest we tested, but a 23 mph gust bowed its side wall in by 14.0 inches. It scores 75 out of 100 and ranks #4 in our best pop-up tents guide as our best pop-up tent for large groups.

What is the best pop-up tent for large groups?

The best pop-up tent for large groups is the CORE 9 Person Instant Cabin Tent, which puts 126.0 sq ft under a 78 inch peak, where visiting parents stood fully upright.

4. CORE 9 Person Instant Cabin Tent

CORE 9 Person Instant Cabin Tent
  • Dimensions: 168 x 108 in floor
  • Weight: 33.4 lb bare
  • Our pitch: 2:35 median
  • Our rain test: 1.4 oz

Bottom Line : The biggest floor in the guide and a frame that goes up with no threading. The wind and the unsealed pockets are the weak points.

With a Family of Four Looking On

Sean and Emma invited a family of four from a pop-up camper to look it over, and the parents liked standing fully upright at 78 inches. The floor is 168 x 108 inches (126.0 sq ft). Two 60 inch queen mattresses will not sit side by side across the 108 inch width. Laid with their 80 inch sides across the width, one leaves 14 inches each side, and laid end to end along the 168 inch length, two leave a 48.0 inch end zone near the door.

The bare frame took a median of 2:35 across 12 trials. A full stake and guy took 5:40, and the repack took 4:50. The repack was a chore: James and the visiting father got down on their knees and rolled the tent three times to squeeze the air out of the coated lower walls.

A 23 mph gust at the campground bowed the 14 foot side panel in by 14.0 inches. The supplied wire pegs pulled loose, so James re-anchored the guy lines with 8 inch forged steel stakes. In the rain chamber 1.4 oz got in, past the unsealed needle stitching along the windward wall's internal storage pockets.

The stress rack showed a minor grit problem too: limestone dust introduced at cycle 10 caused friction along the telescoping steel sleeves and needed extra thumb pressure on the detent buttons.

Where It Asks Something of You

This tent asks for better stakes. Throw out the wire pegs, buy 8 inch forged steel ones and use every guy line.

It asks for care at the door. The front-door fly is too short, so water drips in when you unzip it, and the plastic hub joints feel fragile. And it wants two people at pack-away, because the coated lower walls hold air.

Spec Sheet vs Our Test

2 minute setup. The title says a 2 minute camp setup. Across 12 trials the bare frame took a median of 2:35, and a full stake and guy 5:40. For a 126.0 sq ft cabin that is respectable, but the claim is the frame alone and on a good day.

Sleeps 9 people. The title says it sleeps nine. We did not put nine people in it, and the layout notes make us cautious: two queen mattresses cannot sit side by side across the width. Treat nine as a group of nine with gear outside.

14 x 9 feet. The title gives 14 x 9 feet. We measured 168 x 108 inches, which is exactly that, or 126.0 sq ft, with a 78.0 inch peak. The size is as promised.

3-room layout. The kit includes a divider, so the title's 3-room claim is plausible. We did not test the rooms as such; we measured the floor and laid out mattresses, and we would not count on privacy walls for a group.

Should You Buy the CORE 9 Person Instant Cabin Tent?

Buy the CORE 9 Person if you need a big floor with standing room for a group, you can pitch it with a second person, and you will use real stakes. For a family camping in fair weather it is easy to live in, and the vents are good.

Do not buy it if the forecast is windy or wet. The side panel bowed 14.0 inches at 23 mph, the unsealed pockets leaked 1.4 oz, and the fly lets water in at the door. For a stiffer big shelter, the Space Acacia Lite; for four people and a dry floor, the Alpha C4 Ultra.

Editor's Note, 5 November 2026: New review. Emma tested the Night Cat, and Ryan the Fanttik Alpha C4 Ultra and Wakeman, on the bench and at the campground in October 2026. Sean, Emma, James and Annie tested the other five new tents, with 12 timed trials per tent, a 60-minute rain chamber run and a campground phase. Gazelle and Coleman scores and figures come from their own reviews.
