Our Verdict: Wenzel Great Basin
This is the perfect tent for taller campers or taking your extended family out in the woods for an extended vacay.
I even used it in the backyard for my daughter’s summer birthday party.
It has a 78-inch peak height (6.5 feet) to allow even taller folks the ability to stand up inside.
Even better; if you max out its capacity and put 10 people in this tent, each person will still have their own 15.9 square feet to spread out because this tent offers a total floor size of 159 square feet.
What also makes the Great Basin Tent a great choice for your family is – the room dividers.
You can create three separate rooms inside so that everyone gets their privacy.
And a total of four windows gives this tent plenty of light and ventilation.
Finally, you won’t have to argue over the setup process…
Because this tent’s shock-corded fiberglass poles come with “fast feet” for easy set up.

Value For Money
For a tent that can comfortably fit up to 10 people, this guy is super affordable.
This’s a great bonus because of all the other gear you’ll need to buy and carry for your family camping trip.
Value For Money Rating
And even though it’s a lower price, it’s durable enough to last for years.
Our TopNotch bottom line on the Wenzel Great Basin…
Ease of Setup
The fiberglass poles that come with this tent are designed with a larger diameter.
This makes it easier to set up because you don’t have to worry about breaking a thin set of tent poles -they’re pretty robust.
Ease Of Setup Rating
In addition, the fly ridge pole creates a protective awning in front of the tent’s single door.
This gave my team a place to store shoes without them getting wet when it rained during the night – good eh?
Overall, this tent requires four poles and eight stakes for proper set up.
It’s a freestanding tent that maintains its structure while you’re setting stakes in place.
But if you’re looking for a tent that scored a little higher on our rankings for Ease of Setup…
Be sure to check out the Winterial Teepee Tent for 6-7 people.
Overall Comfort
Even if you hit the maximum 10 person capacity of this tent, it still offers plenty of room for everyone to get comfortable. One feature that really adds to the comfort – when you put this many people in a tent – is room dividers.
Overall Comfort Rating
Using the interior “I” zippers in the tent, you can create three rooms for your group to have their own bit of privacy.
The floor dimensions of this tent measure 18 feet long by 10 feet wide.
It also has a total of four windows that can be opened for additional airflow when camping on balmy nights.
The only thing that brings this tent’s overall Comfort mark down is that it only has a single door.
So you will have to climb over or skirt around people if you need to use the restroom in the night.
Weather Resistance
Once you have the main structure of the tent set up, you can install the included rain fly for additional weather resistance.
The fly is made of polyester material and has sealed seams
Weather Resistance Rating
This last point is really important because the seams are typically where a rain fly is most likely to leak.
That being said…
This tent has a taller profile than some of its competitors like the Big Agnes Flying Diamond.
This means it will be a bit more susceptible to wind gusts
Workmanship
The designers of this tent clearly had the needs of a large family in mind.
The dome-shaped central area of the tent amplifies the interior space so people can move around each other.
Workmanship Rating
Fiberglass poles were an obvious choice for an affordable family tent like this one because they’re durable enough to handle younger campers learning how to set up a tent for the first time.
When we set it up on a rather rainy and windy night, we were pretty impressed by how this tent held up.
Overall…
Packed Size
The packed dimensions of this tent measure 27” x 10.75” x 10.75”. When all the components are packed together, it’ll fit comfortably in most vehicles if you’re planning on car camping.
If you plan to use this tent for a backpacking trip, you’ll want to take the different pieces
Packed Size Rating
(main tent, rain fly, roles and stakes) out of the bag and distribute them among your crew.
With that in mind…
We wouldn’t recommend this tent for backpacking or hiking because it weighs 28.2 pounds.
So you’re better off splitting your group into multiple smaller tents, a great choice is the Onetigris Smokey HUT Tent.
Our Final Verdict: Wenzel Great Basin
With four windows, a peak height of 78 inches, and 159 square feet of floor space…
This is a great family camping tent for up to 10 people!
It’s the perfect tent if you want something that’s affordable and built-to-last.
It’s also forgiving, with durable craftsmanship so you can teach your kids how to set up a tent without worrying about them breaking the poles!
Our Final verdict Rating
Conclusion: Wenzel Great Basin
If you’re looking for an affordable tent to hold multiple family members or buddies at once, this is for you!
We love that you’ll be able to break it into multiple rooms and there are enough windows to keep the smell of the great outdoors wafting into your tent throughout the night, especially if you happened to eat beans for dinner and there are 10 of you!
