Our Verdict: Coleman Weathermaster 10
The Coleman WeatherMaster 10 is, in case you’re wondering (!), a great comfortable family camping tent with 6, 8 and 10 people versions – specially designed for campouts and extended trips with large groups.
With 153 square feet of floor space, maximum head height of 6′ 8″ , easy set-up, and a great price tags the Coleman WeatherMaster is a fantastic family camping tent.
When you’re traveling with the whole family (including your pets), finding an all-round good camping tent that can comfortably fit everyone and your gear can be difficult.
Not anymore though!
The WeatherMaster 10 (6, or 8) has plenty of space giving campers room to enjoy their trip. It’s also sturdy enough to withstand the effects of varied weather conditions.
This is a fantastic long-term investment offering you equal parts strength and durability. You’ll not be disappointed by this 10-person tent – it’ll stand the test of time whilst keeping you comfortable in the process.
Although it was really difficult to find any major issue with the Coleman WeatherMaster, if we had to select a con it’d probably be this – perhaps camping in really poor weather conditions such as high storms and high winds won’t be ideal due to the shape of the tent.
Yet, it gets better:
If you’re looking for a tent with separate rooms for bags and beds, the WeatherMaster 10 should definitely be at the top of your checklist.
This tent gives you separate rooms and areas that can be used super flexibly. If you don’t necessarily want a 10-person tent, you can take your pick from the 6-person or 8-person options.
Depending on the camping requirements…
… you can lay out the inside compartments as you wish, giving you lots of flexibility.

Our Analysis, Comparisons & Test Results
The Coleman WeatherMaster 10 is well-ventilated, spacious, and easy to set up; it’s most suitable for around eight or nine people. We would always recommend you factor down a ‘person’ from the recommended amount just to give you that little bit of wriggle room.
So – if you need a tent to accommodate 6/ 7 people, choose the 8P model, and for 4/5 people, opt for the 6P tent – this way you’ll have ample space.
This tent will keep you protected from surprise rainfall and windy gusts, come what may.
You’ll love it.
The polyurethane-coated polyester material increases the water-resistance and the inverted seams will protect the needle holes from any damage from external elements. While there are different fabrics and coating for tents, it’s polyester that stands out.
Completing the deal are…
…downward-angling windows that add to the ventilation inside the tent. The design of the windows makes for great air circulation all the while keeping the rain out.
You see why this is deserving of a TopNotch Award?
But wait, let me tell you something:
In addition to this, the floor of the tent is specially designed to resist any kind of seepage and leaks. The durability is amped up by the weather cuffs.
Even the poles have been redesigned to increase its capacity to withstand strong winds.
The WeatherMaster 10 is large enough to fit three queen-sized mattresses easily. Keeping in mind the price point and the height of the tent (quite tall), we’d consider this camping tent one of the best on the market.
Just how tall you ask?
The insides measure 17 x 9 feet. The center height stands at 6’ 8” inches – very comfortable even for taller members of your party.
Value for Money
This family camping tent isn’t one of the cheapest options available, for sure. But, there are so many reasons you should seriously consider it.
Trust me when I say every cent is well-justified by the top-quality construction and stitching.
Value for Money Rating
The Coleman WeatherMaster 10 is made to stand the test of time. Even after a couple of years using this tent, it should stay as good as new – just take reasonable care of it.
The TopNotch team just loves the build quality of this tent.
You’ll find shock cords along with fiberglass poles. Its main poles are made of durable steel, which is also premium quality.
Want more?
The manufacturer, Coleman is up there when it comes to creating products that are both reliable and comfortable.
Zipped entrances, pockets along the tent walls, and an easily adaptable layout are all definite plus points. We also like the fact that the design included a hinged door – you don’t see that very often.
Fun Fact:
Coleman has actually patented its hinged doors!
What does this mean for you?
Many tents have a tendency to catch in the zipper. With the hinged door, this isn’t really possible. During testing, we had the kids from our party opening and closing the doors repeatedly, and they even stood up well to that handling (and sometimes misuse).
The warranty’s a huge plus too – in fact all Coleman tents come with a guarantee for one year.
Ease of Use
Setting up the Coleman WeatherMaster 10 is pretty straightforward. We did it with just two of us – we meticulously followed the instructions and set up the three main pole sections together.
In case you might be asking yourself:
We think a single person could set up this tent. It will just take a little longer, of course.
Ease of Use Rating
Adding to the simplicity are color-coded poles and sleeves. A handy help during set-up.
The fly isn’t like your traditional full rain-fly; it also requires minimum effort to set-up. The fly does need to be staked down with guy-lines after you attach it to the main poles.
In terms of the total time setting the tent up, we completed it on our first run in about 20 minutes.
Comfort
Want to know the best part about this tent?
Space, space, and more space!
To be fair we felt 10 people would be a lot to fit in this tent. Our party was 7 in total – 3 adults and 4 kids, and we used sleeping pads rather than air mattresses to optimize our floor space.
Comfort Rating
And – you can easily house three queen-sized beds inside the Coleman WeatherMaster 10 – ample space for a family of four.
The interior is cabin-style with different areas for sleeping and living. Hence, you get to enjoy your own private space without losing the connection of being together with your family and friends.
We found that…
… around the edges of the tent, you can feel a little cold. We recommend giving extra blankets to anyone who sleeps in the outer edges – just be aware of this.
Water Resistance
Before we talk about water resistance, in particular, let’s focus on the weather resistance provided by the Coleman WeatherMaster 10.
The weather resistance is very good due to the cabin design supported by vertical walls.
Our best advice would be to spray a coat of waterproofer on the tent to prevent any potential leaks.
Water Resistance Rating
And the good news?
This camping tent might just be everything you’re looking for. There’s plenty of ventilation thanks to the mesh ceiling, waterproof floors, and windows. The doors and window flaps are also well-designed to ensure optimal air circulation.
In summary, this is a summer tent but it can cope with rain.
But – you should still add an extra layer of weather-proofing in the form of a spray or extra rain fly.
With that, we come to the next part of our performance rating system…
Workmanship
The Coleman WeatherMaster 10 is constructed from premium quality materials throughout.
It’s made of polyester taffeta at 75T. It’s finished with a 450 mm PU coating – great weatherproofing from the wind and rain.
The poles are all color-coordinated making assembly smooth and easy. The continuous pole sleeves add to the convenience.

Our advice?
To improve this tent even further, take along your own titanium stakes – those included aren’t the best quality, and given that they’re so cheap it makes sense to bring your own.
We counted 10 stakes to keep the tent stable and a further six should suffice for the rain fly.
Conclusion: Coleman Weathermaster 10
The Coleman WeatherMaster 10 is the perfect blend of space, high-quality materials, ventilation, waterproof features, and easy setup.
It has multiple features that increase functionality and convenience – including a hinged door, waterproof floors, and inverted leak-free seams.
As if that’s not enough:
There’s the warranty.
A full one year from Coleman on all their tents takes the risk out of your tent investment and means you can relax knowing the manufacturer is confident enough in their product to guarantee it for a whole year.
