Editor's Note, 28 September 2026: New review, from the field logs of our ultrarunners Annie Brown and James Brown.

The AONIJIE 5L held up past 250 miles for our ultrarunners and is fine up to 50k. Wash it before a long run and swap the leaky bundled flasks. It scores 76 out of 100 and ranks #10 in our best hydration vests guide as our best budget vest.

Top-Notch Choice AwardBest Budget Vest

AONIJIE 5L

Our score7.6/10
  • Capacity: 5 L
  • Construction: Standard nylon mesh
  • Hydration: Rear bladder sleeve (this listing includes a 1.5 L bladder) plus front flask pockets
  • Best for: First vest, races up to 50k

Bottom Line : The cheapest vest here, and a properly usable one up to 50k. Break it in, and use better flasks.

Pros

  • Little bounce up to 50k
  • Zip side pockets reachable on the move
  • Body and zippers held up past 250 miles

Cons

  • Scratchy until washed a few times
  • No pull tabs on the flask sleeves
  • Bundled flasks developed slow leaks

Is a Budget Vest Good Enough?

For races up to 50k, yes. The AONIJIE held fluids and basic race essentials securely, with minimal bounce. The zipped side pockets were easy to reach on the move, and the main rear stretch compartment took an extra layer.

After roughly 250 miles, the vest body and zippers were holding up better than our testers expected.

What to Fix Straight Away

Wash it first. The inside mesh binding is stiff and scratchy on bare skin out of the box. It took two or three washes and a few sweaty runs to soften.

Replace the flasks. The bundled soft flasks developed small, slow leaks around the bite valves. Better third-party flasks fix it.

Practise your refills. The front flask sleeves have no elastic pull tabs, so sliding full bottles back in at a crowded aid station is slow.

Spec Sheet vs Our Test

  • Capacity: 5 L.
  • Weight: AONIJIE lists 190 g.
  • Hydration: this listing includes a 1.5 L bladder; there are also front flask pockets.
  • Pockets and sizes: AONIJIE lists 9 exterior pockets and two sizes.

Should You Buy the AONIJIE 5L?

Yes, as a first vest or a spare. Wash it before a long run and pair it with better flasks, and it is a real bargain. If you want a vest that grows with you toward longer races, spend more on the Salomon Active Skin 8.
