Our Verdict: Bonnlo Kayak Cart Canoe Carrier Trolley

The best kayak carts on the market are not cheap – let’s face it. But there are affordable ones that will suit your kayak’s needs more than you think.

Let me introduce you to…

The Bonnlo kayak cart and its solid aluminium frame, solid tires, and the spring-loaded stand!

It’s only 8.8 lbs in weight but can carry your 165-lb kayaks or canoe. The dimensions are 28 x 16.5 x 5.5 inches. It may be relatively big, but it’s foldable and easy to disassemble.

Why do we recommend it?

Because we know that there’s this little thing we call “a budget” and it makes us rummage the internet for low-priced products.

We did just that – and luckily, we found Bonnlo! And this product gave us more than what we expected, considering the price we paid.

Here’s what we found:

The whole size of this cart is relatively big but it has a relatively light weight capacity. That’s a major disadvantage. But the other traits of this product really impressed us.

The material and overall quality of Bonnlo are sturdy and durable, especially the solid tires and the spring-loaded stand. I can also easily transport it, assemble, disassemble, and store it.

There are foam bumpers on the arms too for your boat’s safety, and rubber bumpers on the foot for the kayak dolly cart’s.

Moreover, it has two straps and I love that because I want my boats as secure on the cart as possible.

Later on…

I’ll discuss the details of how we have come to this verdict as we go along the metrics.

But let me assure you – the price we paid for this cart is way cheaper than you’d expect for the quality of the gear you get.

Performance Comparison

1. Value For Money

The Bonnlo kayak carts are placed in the middle of the price range. Fairly affordable, but it’s not the cheapest. But after comparing it with the other brands on our list, we found this to be the best kayak cart in terms of value.

We have no complaints about its easy and convenient storage, transport, and usage.

But the best thing…

The overall quality of the frame and tires exceeded our expectations.

We know that this kind of durability and stability can be found in expensive brands. We also know that Bonnlo is not going to be too weak and easily ruined because, as we said, it’s not that cheap.

Yet it’s generally better than what we thought we were getting.

We just have a few notes about where this cart is better suited and we will get to that for each metric. That said, we really recommend this cart for you.

2. Weight/Portability

The Bonnlo cart is only 8.8 lbs so you can guess that it’s lightweight and easy to carry.

What’s even better?

It’s foldable and can be disassembled.

I was impressed when I found out that the dolly breaks down easily. No tools required to perform this magic – even when putting it together.

It took slightly longer for me to get it all done as compared to some of the products on our top list but it wasn’t too inconvenient.

So it’s not just about the transport.

It’s also the easy and convenient storage of the cart. We didn’t mind the

3. Capacity/Versatility

The Bonnlo’s weight capacity is up to 165 lbs, which is relatively light compared to the other brands.

This will be a problem for you if you’re like me and my friends.

How so?

Because we have a collection of kayaks and canoes that vary in size and shape. Trying this on a two-man or a wooden one won’t work.

It would be able to carry the weight, but the cart itself will not be easy to control and it would be easily ruined.

My colleague actually tried his heavy kayaks on it but after just a few meters of pulling, he stopped and changed carts. He said he knew it just wasn’t meant to be – in other words, the wheels dug into the sand and it became hard to pull.

Speaking of…

We don’t recommend the Bonnlo when you want to go paddling on the beach. The wheels are not designed to tread on the sand, apparently.

At first, we thought it was just because of the weight of the two-man. But we replaced it with a lighter one and still, it dug on the sand and even got stuck in the damp ground!

It’s the wheels…

We’ve also experienced this before with plastic wheels. But Bonnlo’s are solid, airless wheels so it took us quite some time to realize that plastic wheels tend to get stuck just like this because they’re too thin – just like with this product.

Still…

It’s fit for a lot of different boat types just as long as they’re within the 165-lb limit.

Besides, the dolly cart propped up well on the shore when I took my kayaks out of the water with its help.

4. Build Quality

The Bonnlo cart may not be heavy-duty but the overall quality is very sturdy and durable.

Even after my friend risked it with the large kayaks, the solid aluminium frame didn’t budge. Neither did the spring-loaded stand.

Moreover…

The foam bumpers on the arms don’t tear easily even after rolling different boats on and off the dolly cart. The rubber bumpers on the foot are sturdy too. Both features didn’t show signs of wearing off after multiple uses.

This dolly breaks apart easily only when disassembling – for easy and convenient storage – but not when in use.

The Bonnlo dolly cart is one of the best on the market in terms of quality.

Its support stand features can compete with the most expensive brands even on soft sand. Inflatable tires are more recommendable on uneven terrain but Bonnlo’s solid tires roll smoothly on rough terrain too.

And as a bonus:

It comes with two ratchet straps! We like them better than the usual ones because they’re sturdier and can secure heavier loads. They also can better survive the wear and tear of transporting boats.

I was particularly impressed with this because the ratchet straps are usually sold separately from the cart.

In general…

The Bonnlo cart is of great quality and will be with you for a very long time. Just as long as you don’t exceed the cart’s load capacity when you use it.

5. Movability

Considering the dimensions of the cart and the quality materials it’s made of, you’d think that this would be heavy. But the Bonnlo is actually a lightweight cart that can roll smoothly wherever you want it to.

It’s very convenient to use.

Aside from the no-tools-required easy-assembly of this cart, the convenience extends to the actual usage of it.

It’s not very versatile in terms of the road it can be used on but as long as we stayed on the pebbly and rough terrain, we’re good.

Tugging it around by the beach had a little hassle. But the spring-loaded stand performed well on the shore when I rolled my canoe out of the water.

Also…

The solid aluminium frame prevented the entire cart from wobbling as I was pulling my canoe. My friends noted the same too.

So it’s true what they say in the reviews I’ve read online!

Additionally

The foam bumpers and the foot rubber bumpers kept me from worrying about whether I should keep on pulling and tugging at my canoe when transporting it. This adds to the movability of the cart for me.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

1. What’s the difference between the U shape and the other shape?

The U-shape is less compact than the other one and it comes with cane tips rather than handlebar, rubber grips.

2. How would this handle in the sand, while at the beach?

The support stand features are very sturdy so this dolly cart propped well on the shore but going around the beach on loose sand is a little inconvenient with this cart.

3. Can it be used with a 12 ‘aluminum rowboat?

The 12-foot aluminum row boats are around 200 lbs which exceed the carrying capacity of the Bonnlo cart. We suggest that you use this cart with another lighter one.

4. Can this kayak trolley be transported on asphalt streets for a distance of two miles?

Yes, it can. I’ve towed my kayaks on this cart before over an asphalt road from my backyard to my go-to paddling site. It’s actually more than two miles. There was a bit of wear on the tires but they were fine.

Our Final Verdict: Bonnlo Kayak Cart Canoe Carrier Trolley

That’s why we bestow the Best Value Award upon the Bonnlo Kayak Cart Canoe Carrier Trolley!

It’s not the cheapest of all the best kayak carts but it gave the most value for every penny that we paid.

To recap:

The carrying capacity of this cart is not as heavy as the other brands and the solid PU tires are not as versatile as the big beach balloon tires of other varieties.

But don’t fret!

The Bonnlo Canoe Carrier Trolley is very sturdy. Its straps, the spring-loaded stand, the solid aluminium frame, and foam bumpers, and rubber bumpers can all survive the wear and tear of your kayaking adventures.

Even though it didn’t roll smoothly on loose sand in our experience, still the dolly cart propped firmly on the shore when we needed it for quick loading.

The dolly breaks apart conveniently. Add that with its easy assembly, you can easily transport your kayaks to your next kayaking destination.

There’s more to this cart than its fair price!
