- Conclusion: Best Kayak Covers
Any avid kayaker should never underestimate the importance of a kayak storage cover. Great kayak storage covers help preserve your kayak and improve its longevity by protecting it from various elements, UV damage, weather conditions, dirt, dust, debris, and even critters.
Most kayak covers are made of waterproof, or at least water-repellent, materials, preventing rain water and melted snow from penetrating your kayak and causing major damage. They also stop your boat’s color from fading easily. Think of them as your favorite coats or jackets, but for your kayak.
With that said…
There are several factors to think about when choosing a kayak cover, such as where you’re going to store the kayak.
Some kayak covers are meant to be used for indoor storage; they protect your kayak from dust, dirt, and unwelcome critters that might sneak in on your kayak. On the other hand, other kayaks are built for outdoor storage; they are usually ultraviolet-resistant and waterproof.
There are several types of boat covers to suit your needs, which we’ll also discuss in this article.
Read on to know more about them, as well as to see which kayak covers made our best list.
Best Water Resistant Kayak Cover
#1 – GYMTOP 7.8-18.2ft Waterproof 420D Thickened Kayak Canoe Cover
For a kayak cover that protects your precious kayak from the sun, wind, salt air, and water, the GYMTOP 7.8-18.2ft Waterproof 420D Thickened Kayak Canoe Cover is your new buddy for the job.
This kayak cover is made from resilient 420D Oxford Taffeta that is a fade-resistant and highly durable material. As we live in a place with harsh sun and quite heavy rains even in summers, the one we own has been exposed to all kinds of weather conditions and elements already, and it’s still going strong until now.
We can attest to how water-resistant this cover is. When it rains, the water will just accumulate on its low spots rather than penetrate the cover. It’s very secure too. Take it from someone who resides in a windy place; this cover will stay on even in 55 mph winds.
It has SPF 50+ UV protection that blocks out 99% of the sun, effectively shielding your kayak from any UV damage that can cause all sorts of problems, such as weakening the construction of your boat, damaging the seat fabrics, and fading the boat’s color. Apart from outdoor elements, it also keeps out dust, bugs, spiders, and all sorts of critters.
Another thing we like about this kayak cover is how easy it is to use. Thanks to its elastic hem and bungee cord, as long as you get the size right, it is very easy to pull over your kayak— no need for help from any companion, a good thing for anyone who prefers kayaking solo.
It comes in seven different sizes, so it fits kayaks of various sizes. Included are three straps that you can wrap around your kayak’s hull for extra security and to prevent it from bulging out, and a drawstring bag for portability.
If you somehow still can’t tell by now, we’re very impressed by our Editor’s Choice. Durable, water-resistant, and provides fantastic protection from all kinds of elements, it’s a no-brainer to try out this kayak cover.

Best Budget Kayak Cover
#2 – GYMTOP 7.8-18ft Waterproof Kayak Canoe Cover
Buying and maintaining a kayak alone can already cost you quite a lot of money, so getting a high-quality kayak cover shouldn’t burn a hole in your pocket any further.
One of our tried-and-tested favorite kayak covers is the GYMTOP 7.8-18ft Waterproof Kayak Canoe Cover, which is a great affordable option.
Constructed from ripstop 300D Oxford Taffeta material, it is abrasion-resistant and has a silver side that reflects heat and glare. Because it is extremely lightweight, it’s easy just to grab and cover your kayak with, easy to take off, and easy to store as well.
It features elastic parameters and an elastic pull string that allow for a snug fit, and adjustable straps that you can fasten underneath the hull for added security, especially when it’s extremely windy, as well as to keep other elements and critters out. It’s UV-resistant and dust-proof also.
This kayak cover has excellent rain protection too. When it’s raining, the water will drip down onto it, while the kayak inside stays dry as a bone.
We’re going to be honest…
We weren’t expecting much from this given the price, but it held up very well from hard rains and windstorms, especially considering the price tag, making it very much deserving of our Best Value award.

Best Wellington Boots For Women
8 – Polar Women’s Winter Rain Boots
Now, Polar is a brand that you’ve perhaps not heard of.
But they have a wide range of Wellies – outdoor products – available in their collection.
These Wellington boots from Polar are designed for use in winter.
This Wellie won’t turn heads with its looks.
But make up for it with some useful functionality.
Does it have a solid insulating layer?
It’s the natural vulcanized rubber that makes them resistant to cold.
… there was a textile lining making them warmer and more comfortable for our tester.
We tested them on some tricky surfaces and said the rubber soles were happily slip-resistant.
While their support could have been better, the waterproof-ness was reliable in the wet.
In addition, you can adjust the calf—a practical feature.
But looking at feedback from long term users, we couldn’t mark them as exceptionally durable.
The use of vulcanized rubber also gives them that extra weight- not something we appreciate.
Overall, it’s a decent winter boot for women – with an attractive price tag.

Best Wellington Boots For Toddlers
9 – Hatley Boys’ Printed Rain Boots
When it comes to kids, you need something bright and exciting. You need them to ‘want’ to wear them when needed.
The Hatley Boys’ Printed rain boots are available in a wide range of colors and designs that kids will love.
My toddler wouldn’t take his off; only exchanged them for his superman slippers after a skirmish.
The 100% rubber construction makes them useful for rainy days.
There’s also a cotton fabric lining for extra comfort.
The good thing is, they fitted true to size and hardly need any break-in time at all.
… some long term users did report that they had problems with sizing.
Make sure you check the size guide for toddlers, small kids, and large kids.
But there’s more…
You get a pull-on closure that makes them super easy to put on and take off.
Also, it’s easy to clean the removable insole after a day in the garden – just bung it in the wash.
News Flash: These were also our Editor’s Choice for the best Wellies for kids. Considering the reasonable price and the TopNotch features, these are some of the best Wellies available for your kids.

Best Wellington Boots For Dog Walking
10 – HUNTER Women’s Original Short Rain Boot
This Wellington from Hunter has a classic look that’ll appeal to those Wellie-fans out there.
At first glance, the design might look a bit plain – but hold on… there’s more.
This Wellie comes in a range of bright colors with a glossy finish and funky buckle.
Quite simply, Hunter has made this a stylish boot, not a functional one.
If you’re looking for all-round protection from general cold and water, this is the right choice for you.
But, the insulation levels aren’t adequate for freezing weather.
The rubber construction – instead of leather – keeps them light and waterproof.
However, the traction in slippery conditions wasn’t the best with this rubber outsole. It lacks the deep lugs helpful for friction.
In reality, we found the rubber structure durable and comfortable for short walks.
But if you want to move happily over rough ground, look for something with better shock-absorbing features.
Our advice- stick to the city limits. Don’t plan your next outdoor trip with this one.
Beyond that, they are wide around the calves. Another aspect that makes them fit perfectly with thick socks.
At the end of a long day of testing, we chose this Wellie from Hunter as our Editor’s Choice for the best Wellington for women.
Let’s put it this way…

How To Choose The Best Kayak Covers
1. What are the different types of Kayak Covers?
As you probably can already guess from the name, cockpit covers are used to cover and protect the kayak’s cockpit from the sun, water, weather conditions, insects, and stray animals. They are particularly useful for sit-in kayaks.
Shower Cap-style Kayak Covers
Like a shower cap, Shower Cap-style Kayak Covers cover only the upper portion of the kayak, with the bottom of the hull left exposed. Elastic drawstrings and adjustable straps enable this type of cover to hug kayak bodies fully. This type is ideal to be used for indoor storage, like in a garage or a shed.
Bag-Style Kayak Covers
Resembling sleeping bags, bag-style kayak covers offer maximum protection for your kayak because of their full coverage. The only downside to them that we could think of is that they are less easy to put on and take off, so you might want to enlist the help of a kayaking buddy if you’re planning to use this type of kayak cover.
2. Features to look out for when choosing a kayak cover
The sun and its UV rays can cause irreparable damage to your kayak, so make sure you choose a kayak storage cover with effective UV protection.
Waterproofness / Water repellency
Everyone who stores their kayak outdoors knows the struggle of keeping their kayak and kayak accessories dry during heavy rains or winter days. For that reason, waterproofness, or water repellency, is a crucial feature for a kayak storage cover to have.
Of course, you still should know the size of your boat so you can buy a cover with accurate sizing, but sometimes a cover just isn’t as snug as you’d like. And that’s why adjustable straps are important so that you can cinch up the storage cover to your liking. They also add security, especially when the winds are strong.
Kayak storage bags
Even a cover needs good protection when stored. Instead of buying one though, it’s better just to pick a kayak cover that already comes with a storage bag.
3. Top Tips
- After every use, clean your kayak thoroughly. First, spray it with a hose to remove any dirt, salt, sand, and grime. Next, clean with mild soap and water, and make sure to really let it dry before storing.
- If you store your kayak outdoors, it’s not really a good idea to keep it on the ground. Instead, buy or make a wood or metal rack where your kayak can be safe and secure.
- Consistently monitor the condition of your kayak cover and check for any abrasion, rip, or tear during every end of a kayaking season so that you’ll know if it already needs replacing.
- Consider investing in UV protective sprays to protect your kayak further from UV damage.
- Avoid strapping your kayak down too tight when transporting it, as it might cause damage to the hull.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q Should I cover my kayak in the winter?
Of course. Actually, you should cover your kayak every time it’s not in use, but even more so when it’s winter, as snow and the accompanying strong winds can wreak havoc to your kayak. So be sure that you store it in a dry, warm area because your kayak is more susceptible to brittleness when it’s cold.
Q.Are kayak covers worth it?
Absolutely. Kayak covers keep your kayak safe and well-protected from harmful weather elements, unwanted creatures, and all sorts of nasty stuff like dirt and grime. We’re going to be honest, don’t expect a long shelf life for your kayak if you don’t have a good kayak cover on hand.
Q.How do you size a kayak cockpit?
Get a measurement tape, then measure the length, width, and entire circumference of the cockpit. You can determine the length by measuring from the outside of the cockpit rim edge to the other side. For the width, simply measure the widest part of the cockpit. As for the circumference, use your tape measure to measure around the outside edge of the cockpit rim. Don’t forget to record the measurements!
