Our Verdict: RAILBLAZA Ctug Kayak or Canoe Trolley Cart

Let’s cut to the chase.

This C-tug cart can carry your canoe up to 300 lbs or 120 kg of it, it’s easy to assemble and dismantle, it’s durable and sturdy, and it has very handy features.

It’s pretty popular in the paddle sports arena today too!

It’s our Top Pick because there’s just so much to love about it. In the course of this review, we will get into each metric and we’ll describe in detail why we gave this product such scores.

For now…

Let’s see what the Railblaza C-tug kayak cart has in store for you.

To be honest, I wasn’t quite impressed by the thin puncture-free wheels that looked a bit like plastic.

But apparently, that’s how reinforced composite material is supposed to look like – my bad. I found out in the C-tug assembly guide that it’s made of high grip rubber tread. The puncture-free wheels reduce the risk of flat tires.

I found it better than pneumatic wheels.

The C-tug is made of non-corroding engineering polymers with stainless steel reinforced axles that don’t easily rust.

As for its other features…

The essentials are present, like the strap, kickstand, and rubberized pads. And they’re all adjustable and can easily fit in a canoe or kayak hatch.

Each one of these features we will describe with regards to the metrics and in comparison to the other brands on the market.

So don’t fret… You’ll soon know whether this is the kayak and canoe trolley cart to update your paddle experience!

Performance Comparison

1. Value For Money

To remove the sugarcoat: this particular brand is quite expensive. It’s about twice the price of most products on the market and most products on our top list.

But what can I say?

This C-tug is the deal! What use are a few bucks off if you don’t get at least what was promised to you?

Well, the Railblaza C-tug kayak and canoe cart gave me more.

Particularly, the capacity is off the charts. And even though it can take on my heavier kayaks, the C-tug itself is easy to carry around.

No, it’s not perfect.

There are a few disappointments along the road, especially when I compared it to the other brands that are mostly made of aluminum pipe.

Especially since this one’s a lot more expensive than those.

But later I’ll explain it clearly so you’d know why this cart will give you the most value for your buck.

So I say…

If you want to treat yourself and you have the budget for it, why ever not?

You won’t regret buying this product for it will hold for a long time, you wouldn’t have to buy other trolleys for your bigger canoes or kayaks, and you have to admit it does look classy.

2. Weight/Portability

The dimensions of the Railblaza trolley is only 6 x 10 x 30 inches, which is relatively small. And it weighs about 9.6 lbs, just a pound heavier than the other brands.

Maybe now you’ll understand why it didn’t look like much to me at first glance. My kayak is at least 250 lbs so I was a bit doubtful about this trolley.

Imagine my surprise…

As I pulled at the C-tug, it glided easily with my kayak on top of it like no one’s business. I tried it first on flat terrain, then on a little slope in my backyard.

So it’s small and light weight for easy storage in a kayak hatch, whether the front hatch or the rear hatch. It’s convenient to carry as well.

But it carries kayaks and canoes just as expertly as the bigger carts.

The thing that I love is that…

Its portability didn’t compromise the quality of its service to me. So I highly recommend this C-tug.

It also didn’t hurt that I was able to assemble it in about 20 seconds after watching a C-tug explanation video.

3. Capacity/Versatility

Do you know what’s better than a small and lightweight C-tug kayak and canoe cart? One that can carry up to 300 lbs of kayak weight!

As mentioned before, the portability of this kayak didn’t compromise its weight capacity. The stainless steel reinforced axles made this possible with their incredible strength.

How does it compare to others?

Most of the carts that can be found on the market are just about as big and heavy as the Railblaza C-tug kayak and canoe cart. But they’re all in the 160 to 250-pound range in terms of carrying capacity.

It’s not that problematic. Most kayaks and canoes weigh just as much, especially the single sit-on-top ones.

But for some of us who have a collection of different sizes and shapes, we long for heavy-duty carts.

What else?

The rubberized pads of this product are adjustable so you can fit in any type of hull that you have.

Again, for those of us who hoard – er – collect them, this is an almost one-size-fits-all trolley that’s totally worth your buck.

And by the way…

The puncture-free wheels are the real deal. I was confident in using it on the pebbly, unforgiving way toward my go-to fresh water paddling site. I didn’t have to worry about flat tires.

And I wasn’t disappointed. It worked well in my backyard and on rough terrain so I gave this a high versatility score.

4. Build Quality

We’ve established that the Railblaza C-tugs can carry more weight than the other carts we tried. It can also be used on different terrains, even the difficult ones.

I’m quite impressed because the C-tug is made of non-corroding engineering polymers with stainless steel reinforced axles. Its incredible strength keeps the whole product together.

However…

It’s not the best quality there is on the market.

The score I gave it in terms of build quality doesn’t necessarily mean that aluminum pipe should’ve been the better material for it. It only means that the reinforced composite material in this product isn’t as durable as the other ones that are made of the same.

Either way…

I had to take extra care especially when I tried it for my two-man kayak and my fishing kayak. It’s a lot heavier so the ride was a bit shaky.

And the strap didn’t help.

They didn’t break but they’re not very secure. I think it had something to do with how they were placed under and around the C-tug but I hoped they’d be more sturdy.

That said…

The high grip rubber tread are puncture-free wheels, as promised.

The Railblaza C-tug kayak and canoe trolley is a wear-and-tear survivor. It didn’t exceed the other cart in terms of durability but only by a small gap. This product is still very recommendable.

5. Movability

Yes, the ride can be shaky with the Railblaza C-tug kayak and canoe cart, but only when it’s carrying the heavier types of kayak from my collection.

First of all:

Plus points already for the fact that it can carry the heaviest load – clap, clap, clap! It’s a huge factor for the high score that I gave in this particular metric.

Second, when I tried on it my two-man kayak, only then did the stability of the ride start to falter.

Unlike any other cart.

Some of the brands I tried were a little unstable from the beginning. And the kayak I used wasn’t even that heavy.

Moreover…

This product is a lot easier to navigate even with the big kayak. I didn’t have to look over it all the time and it glided very smoothly.

There was a bit of difficulty on the pebbly ground but it didn’t lessen the convenience of using this C-tug.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

1. How much does the C-tug raise the boat above ground?

We were able to raise it up to 8 inches off the ground but the bigger boats were only up 6 inches.

2. Does the C-tug come with the new cam strap?

No, the Railblaza C-tugs don’t have a new cam strap. You’ll have to buy them separately.

3. Does it work for a wilderness ride 115x angler?

Yes, it works for a wide variety of kayaks and canoes because the rubberized pad can be adjusted to fit different hulls. Plus, the capacity of the C-tug is up to 300 lbs.

4. Will these puncture-free wheels work in soft sand?

Yes, the Railblaza trolley can be used on soft sand because the high grip rubber tread solid wheels are specifically designed to glide through different terrains just as well as pneumatic wheels.

Our Final Verdict: RAILBLAZA C tug Kayak and Canoe Trolley Cart

Even though the Railblaza C-tug isn’t the best in all the metrics, it’s our Top Pick because its stainless steel reinforced axles gave it the heaviest capacity. The adjustable rubberized pads are specifically designed for versatility.

But despite that, this product is very portable and fits in a canoe or kayak hatch.

My only complaint about it is the price but the value I got from it is more than what I paid for.
