The KTT Extra Large 12 Person Cabin Tent is our best heavy-duty tent pick, and it scored 79 out of 100 in our testing.

A genuinely large full rainfly cabin with heavy printed ratings for the money, but seam leaks and plastic pole joints keep it a calm weather tent.

This is the full rainfly, two bay window version of the KTT straight wall cabin, so it takes the heavy duty award on paper ratings and floor space rather than on a bombproof build.

Here's the deal:

We tested it head to head against the other top 12 person tents, and below we break down how it did on Value for Money, Ease of Use, Durability/Workmanship, Weather Resistance, Comfort, where it falls short, and whether it is worth your money.

Our Verdict: KTT Extra Large 12 Person Cabin Tent

A genuinely large full rainfly cabin with heavy printed ratings for the money, but seam leaks and plastic pole joints keep it a calm weather tent.

This is the full rainfly, two bay window version of the KTT straight wall cabin, so it takes the heavy duty award on paper ratings and floor space rather than on a bombproof build.

So, is it any good?

It is one of the cheaper full size cabins here for the floor space you get, which is why value scores an 8.

On paper the 1500mm fly and 2500mm floor ratings look strong for the price, better than the sticker suggests.

The full rainfly and the printed ratings sold me, and after I hosed and sealed the seams it held light rain fine, plus the three doors make it feel like a house. Straight out of the bag it leaked at the zippers and one of the plastic joints looked ready to crack, so I would not push it in wind or a real storm.

Our Analysis, Comparisons, and Test Results

The KTT Extra Large 12 Person Cabin Tent scored 79 out of 100 overall.

It is strongest on value for money and weakest on durability/workmanship.

Here is how it did on every metric we tested, with exactly how each score compares to the rest of the field.

Value for Money

It is one of the cheaper full size cabins here for the floor space you get, which is why value scores an 8.

On paper the 1500mm fly and 2500mm floor ratings look strong for the price, better than the sticker suggests.

You pay for space and printed numbers rather than a lifetime warranty or premium poles.

Owner ratings run mixed, with roughly a quarter of buyers unhappy with the material or capacity claims.

Category average7.9/10
Worst in test6/10

Ease of Use

This is a hand assembled straight wall cabin, not a pop up, so pitching takes two people about 15 to 20 minutes.

Steel uprights plus fiberglass poles thread and clip into plastic three way joints, which slows the first pitch.

You might be wondering:

Three doors and three mesh windows make entry and airflow flexible once it is standing.

Two extra poles let the front door curtain fold out into an awning for shaded outdoor space.

Durability/Workmanship

Some owners report the plastic corner and pole joints cracking, which can let a corner sag or collapse.

The double layer construction is a plus, but the assembly hardware is the clear weak point.

Build quality is mixed, fine for occasional warm season use but not for hard repeated seasons.

It is the tent to inspect and reinforce at the joints before a big trip.

Weather Resistance

The full rainfly is the upgrade over the plainer KTT, giving fuller coverage over the walls in rain.

Fly and walls are 210D polyester rated to about 1500mm, the floor is 180 gsm at about 2500mm.

Those numbers read well, but owners report leaks at seams and zippers, so it suits sunny days and light rain, not sustained downpours.

A common fix is to hose it at home first so the seams swell and to seam seal before a trip.

Comfort

The straight walls and 79 inch center height give full standing room across the floor.

A separation curtain splits the roughly 14 by 10 foot floor into two rooms for privacy.

Three doors and three mesh windows plus two bay windows keep it bright and airy in warm weather.

It is realistically an 8 to 10 sleeper once you allow for gear, not a true 12.
