Battery Life

We found the battery life of the S30R III Flashlight really depends on which brightness you use and how much you flick between modes.

The fact is…

You’ll get up to 3 ½ hours of solid use on the brightest setting combination. This gets progressively more as the lower-lumen modes are activated.

But with the brightness of this beam, 3 hours is a good while to be running constantly at full power.

The S30R Flashlight III light can run off a single 18650 battery, or 2x CR123A batteries.

The longevity of the battery depends on which mode you use, but at the very brightest you’ll get an impressive 3 hours of solid light.

Mode 2 brightness will give you 3 ½ hours, mode 3 can last up 15 hours, mode 4 can go for 130 hours, and mode 5 (or strobe) can go for 100 days without needing a charge.

Bottom Line?

The S30R Flashlight gets a solid 7/10 for its battery power. You won’t be stranded in the dark any time soon with this light at your side.

Brightness

For a small torch light, the S30R Flashlight III is surprisingly bright, at 1050 lumens on the strongest mode.

Although it only lasts 3 minutes at the brightest before switching to 500 lumens, it’s more than enough to light just about any situation.

1050 lumens is incredibly bright for such a compact light. That’s considered Turbo mode, but it can only last for 3 minutes before switching to High mode at 500 lumens. Next up is Medium at 20 lumens, Low at 12 lumens, and a soft moonlight mode, at 12 lumens.

That’s a fantastic array of brightness levels. There’s also a strobe light.

Our thoughts?

The Olight S30R Recharge Flashlight gets a well-deserved 7 for this metric. No matter what you need to illuminate, this torch will light it up.

Beam Quality

For a little light, the Olight S30R Recharge Flashlight III’s beam quality is great. It has a maximum distance of 188 meters (616 feet). It has a standard hotspot diameter beam that has very little spill.

The downside?

It’s a shorter distance than others in its class, although it’s perfectly adequate. 7/10 is a worthy score for this powerful beam.

Olight S30R

The Olight S30R Flashlight III has a simple-to-use side switch that can be locked using “lockout mode” to avoid accidental bumping while in your pocket. All modes are activated using the same side switch.

Magnetic charging was also super simple and didn’t require disassembling the light. We just placed it in the magnetic charging dock and let it do its thing.

Final thoughts?

One of the easiest operations we’ve come across in a light. You can’t get it wrong!

Durability

We really threw this light around in our testing experience, and what we can tell you is this:

It’s tough. It’s hardy. And the only reason it comes further down our list is that there are others that are slightly more hardcore.

Don’t let the 6/10 score fool you into thinking this torch won’t survive some rough handling. It’s seriously sturdy.

The body is crafted from aluminum and it has a stainless steel belt clip - neither will be wearing out any time soon.

It has an IPX8 waterproof rating,so if you need to take a night dive, you’ll be totally safe. If you’re caught in a downpour and need to light your way home, this trusty torch won’t even flicker.

Conclusion?

TopNotch hardcore condition testing proved that it can deal with being frozen, submerged, dropped (multiple times…), kicked, driven over, and used in hot conditions.

Features

Although it has fewer features than some of the torches we reviewed…

It’s still packed with useful functions that will serve you well no matter what adventure you choose.

Olight S30R

This compact light features a silicon side switch that’s positioned in such a way it can’t be accidentally switched on.

A magnetic tail cap meant we could take it anywhere and light up pretty much any activity. We simply popped the tail cap on a metal surface, and bingo - a hanging/ standing light.

Magnetic charging is a TopNotch feature that means you don’t have to take your torch apart to charge it. It gets a big thumbs-up for the ability to use it while it’s being charged, upping the convenience factor.

Its range of 5 modes, from moonlight mode to Turbo, make it extremely versatile. Mode memory is extremely helpful if you use one more often than others.

It also features a lockout mode to avoid accidental switching on.

Bottom Line?

Although it doesn’t have as many unique features as others, the S30R Flashlight III is still loaded with useful functions. You can use it pretty much any time, anywhere.

Final Verdict: Olight S30R Flashlight

This torch is TopNotch for adventurers of all kinds who want a lightweight, compact light that packs a serious brightness punch.

If you’re willing to pay a little more than you might usually, you’ll find yourself with a light companion for life.
