SoundAsleep Camping Series Air Mattress
- Size: Queen (78 x 60 x 9 in)
- Also available: Twin
- Height: 9 in
- Weight: about 13 lb
- Capacity: 500 lb
- Pump: Rechargeable external, wall + car charger
- Inflation time: about 3 to 4 min
- R-value: Not published (sleeps cold)
Bottom Line : The most practical full-size airbed for car camping, held back only by the cold that any tall airbed lets up from the ground.
Pros
- Rechargeable pump works off-grid
- Thick outdoor-grade PVC
- Flat, supportive queen surface
- Detachable pump packs small
Cons
- Sleeps cold without a pad
- Heavy at about 13 lb
- No overnight top-off if battery dies
A 9-inch queen built from extra-thick eco-friendly PVC with a rechargeable external pump, so you can inflate it in a tent with no outlet nearby. The included external pump is rechargeable and holds roughly a 24-hour charge, and ships with both a wall charger and a car charger. It reaches full firmness in about 3 to 4 minutes from the battery pump.
Rolls into its carry bag but the queen weighs about 13 lb, so it is a two-hands haul, not a pack item. The most practical full-size airbed for car camping, held back only by the cold that any tall airbed lets up from the ground. It scores 89 out of 100.
The battery pump saved us at a site with no power and it was firm in under four minutes. Our honest gripe is that we woke up chilly from underneath on a 45-degree night until we threw a foam pad under it.

- Capacity: 600 lb

- Fast built-in pump
- Tall 18-in guest-bed height
- 600 lb capacity
Cons
- AC pump needs an outlet
- Sleeps cold from below

An 18-inch lifted Dura-Beam queen with a built-in AC pump and Fiber-Tech internal beams, one of the lowest-cost ways to get a real-bed height airbed. The built-in AC electric pump inflates it in about 3 minutes and deflates it just as fast. One switch does the whole job, with no separate pump to lose.
Folds back into a box-sized bundle for a closet or trunk. A tall, cheap queen with a fast built-in pump that does the job at home, as long as you can reach an outlet and accept some slow air loss. It scores 84 out of 100.
For the money it inflated fast and felt surprisingly tall and firm. The catch is we needed an outlet to run the pump, and by the third night it had softened enough that we topped it off.

King Koil Queen Air Mattress
- Size: Queen
- Height: 20 in
- Construction: Coil-beam internal support
- Pump: Built-in high-speed AC
- Inflation time: about 2 to 2.5 min
- Capacity: 600 lb
- Extra: Built-in raised pillow
- Warranty: 1 year
Bottom Line : The closest an airbed gets to a real mattress feel, with an integrated pillow, but it needs a wall outlet and still sleeps cold underneath.
Pros
- Top-rated real-bed comfort
- Built-in pillow
- Fast 2 to 2.5 min pump
- 600 lb capacity
Cons
- AC pump needs an outlet
- Sleeps cold from below
- Bulky and heavy to pack
A 20-inch queen with a built-in high-speed pump, coil-beam internal support, and a raised built-in pillow that testers rank among the most comfortable airbeds. CNN Underscored named the 20-inch version the most comfortable airbed in its test. Edge-to-edge internal coils keep the sides firm so sleepers do not roll off.
Rolls down but is heavy and tall, one of the bulkier queens here. The closest an airbed gets to a real mattress feel, with an integrated pillow, but it needs a wall outlet and still sleeps cold underneath. It scores 83 out of 100.
The built-in pillow and firm edges made it feel like a proper bed, easily the comfiest airbed we slept on. Our caveat is you are chained to an outlet, so at a no-power site we had no way to firm it back up.

- Inflation time: under 2 min
- Valves: Separate inflate and deflate

Cons
- Seam and valve leaks reported
- Sleeps cold from below
- Dual valves confuse at first

No published R-value, and the tall air chamber sleeps cold from the ground. A fast-inflating queen with a dual valve system and both wall and car adapters, though seam and valve leaks turn up often enough in owner reviews to note. It scores 80 out of 100.
The car adapter meant we could inflate it right at the site, and it was firm in under two minutes. We did fumble the two-valve system at first, and it lost a little air by the second morning.

Klymit Static V Sleeping Pad
- Type: Inflatable backpacking pad
- Dimensions: 72 x 23 x 2.5 in
- Weight: about 18 oz
- Packed size: roughly Nalgene-bottle sized
- R-value: about 1.3 (summer only)
- Inflation: 10 to 15 breaths, no pump
- Baffle: Body-mapped V-chamber
Bottom Line : A genuinely packable, cheap backpacking pad that is comfortable for the weight, but its low R-value makes it a summer-only choice.
Pros
- Packs to Nalgene size
- Light at about 18 oz
- Body-mapped V-baffles
- Low price
Cons
- Low R-value, summer only
- No pump sack, blow up by mouth
- Thin for side sleepers
A body-mapped V-chamber inflatable pad that packs to the size of a water bottle and weighs around 18 oz, the value pick for warm-season backpackers. Packs down to roughly the size of a 1L Nalgene bottle, the smallest packed size in this list except the Sea to Summit Ultralight. The whole pad weighs about 18 oz.
The non-insulated Static V has an R-value around 1.3, one of the lowest of any backpacking pad tested. A genuinely packable, cheap backpacking pad that is comfortable for the weight, but its low R-value makes it a summer-only choice. It scores 82 out of 100.
It rolls up to the size of our water bottle and the V-baffles kept us from sliding off, great for summer. Honestly though, on a cold October night the ground chill came straight through and we were cold by morning.

Sea to Summit Ultralight Air Mattress
Bottom Line : The smallest, most packable pad here for weight-counting backpackers, but this listing is the non-insulated version, so its real warmth is summer-grade.
Pros
- Smallest packed size here
- Very light
- Air-sprung cell comfort
- Good multi-function valve
Cons
- This listing is non-insulated, summer only
- Can feel bouncy or crinkly
- Thin for rough ground
A regular 72 x 21.5 in ultralight backpacking pad with air-sprung cells that packs down to about the size of a soda can, built for grams-matter trips. Packs down to roughly a soda-can size, the smallest packed volume in this entire list. The regular version is light enough to disappear in a pack.
At about 2 inches thick with air-sprung cells, it cushions better than its tiny pack size suggests. The smallest, most packable pad here for weight-counting backpackers, but this listing is the non-insulated version, so its real warmth is summer-grade. It scores 84 out of 100.
It packs down to nothing and the air-sprung cells were comfier than we expected for the weight. Just know the plain version is not insulated, so we felt the cold ground and had to add a closed-cell pad in the fall.

- Pump: Electric turbo (AC)

- XL travel bag included
Cons
- Toddlers only, they outgrow it
- AC pump needs an outlet
- Slow leaks reported after heavy use
A four-sided bumpered toddler air bed with a flocked velvet top and thick reinforced vinyl, made to keep small kids contained on the road or in a tent. The included electric turbo pump inflates the whole bed in under about 30 seconds. A heavy-duty air valve and reinforced weld seams are built to hold air against toddler abuse.
Deflates and rolls into the included XL bag, small enough for a suitcase or car. A low, bumpered travel bed that keeps a toddler from rolling off, easy to inflate and durable, though a slow leak turns up for some owners after heavy use. It scores 82 out of 100.
The bumpers actually kept our two-year-old on the bed all night and it aired up in about half a minute. Our only note is the pump needs a plug, so we had to inflate it at home before we drove to the campground.

- Capacity: 600 lb
- Top surface: Flocked

- Wide king sleeping area
- Fast built-in pump
- Tall 18-in height
- 600 lb capacity
Cons
- Really a home bed, hard to fit a tent
- Sleeps cold from below
- Air-retention complaints
An 18-inch lifted king Dura-Beam with a built-in AC pump and Fiber-Tech internal beams, the widest sleeping surface in this list at a low price. The built-in AC pump inflates and deflates it in roughly 4 to 5 minutes. One switch runs the whole cycle with no separate pump to manage.
The king folds into a large, heavy bundle, the bulkiest packed size here. A wide king with a fast built-in pump for guests or a big family tent, but it is really a home bed, sleeps cold, and some owners report it losing air. It scores 79 out of 100.
The king width was luxurious for two of us and it inflated on its own in a few minutes. The downside is it barely fits a tent, and after a handful of nights it was noticeably softer by morning.

EnerPlex Twin Camping Air Mattress
- Size: Twin
- Height: Double-height
- Material: Puncture-resistant PVC, flocked top
- Pump: Built-in, wall + car adapter
- Inflation time: under 2 min
- Valves: Separate inflate and deflate

- 2-year warranty
Cons
- Sleeps cold from below
- Slow leaks and seam issues reported
- Dual valves confuse at first

Smaller and lighter than the queen, but still a rolled airbed with an integrated pump. A one-person twin version of the EnerPlex airbed that inflates fast off a car adapter, with the same cold-sleep and occasional leak caveats as its queen sibling. It scores 79 out of 100.
For one person it was quick to set up and the car adapter meant no hunting for an outlet. It did soften overnight and we have read enough seam-leak reviews to baby the valves.

Sea to Summit Comfort Deluxe Self-Inflating Mat
Bottom Line : The warmest and most comfortable choice here by a wide margin, a 4-inch self-inflating foam mat, at the cost of being heavy and slow to pack.
Pros
- High R-value about 5.2, sleeps warm
- 4 inches of foam comfort
- Self-inflating, no pump
- Holds shape for years
Cons
- Bulkiest and heaviest here
- Slow to roll and pack
- Not for backpacking
A self-inflating foam camping mat with a 4-inch foam core and an R-value around 5.2, the only pad here that actually solves the cold-from-the-ground problem. The 4-inch foam core gives a measured R-value around 5.2, with one test reading as high as 6.5. That is genuine cold-weather insulation, unlike every airbed here that sleeps cold.
The 4-inch foam core makes this the bulkiest and heaviest packed item in the list. The warmest and most comfortable choice here by a wide margin, a 4-inch self-inflating foam mat, at the cost of being heavy and slow to pack. It scores 85 out of 100.
This is the only mat on our list we stayed genuinely warm on, the thick foam kept the ground cold out on a frosty night. The trade is real though, it is heavy and a chore to wrestle back into the stuff sack.
