  • Ultra-lightweight
Cons
  • The headrest can be uncomfortable
  • Extremely long crotch strap

Our Verdict:

Airhead Treasure Life Vest

Like most life jackets, the Airhead Treasure Life Vest has an adjustable waist belt and crotch strap included. It’s a closed sided vest that has a zipper for better security.

The fabric is made of polyester so it’s water-resistant and very lightweight.

This product’s ocean-inspired graphic design is very attractive to children as well.

And maybe even adults too!

But there’s a catch...

As we were examining it, we were united about the lengthy crotch straps. We all found them a little inconvenient.

There’s some discomfort at the headrest too that didn’t sit quite well with some of the kids. These we will discuss in more detail later in this review.

But don’t worry, for we will also give you the other impressive specs that decided our Top Pick for us.

And the pros definitely outweigh the cons.

Our Analysis, Comparisons & Test Results

Performance Comparison

1. Value For Money

The Airhead Treasure Life Vest isn’t the cheapest on the market, but neither is it the most expensive. Relatively speaking, it’s an affordable brand.

We felt that we got everything we paid for.

So why is it not the best value for the money?

This rating is only in comparison to the other brands. The Airhead may not be the best but it’s still better than most.

The cheaper items on the market are not as durable and comfortable and the more expensive ones are only just as good as the Airhead life jackets.

The metrics will explain this verdict better.

2. Comfort

Now, about the headrest and the lengthy crotch straps...

This took some points off.

For sure children would mind that the head support is a bit heavy when not in the water… especially if they like running around by the banks.

Some of the kids complained about how their movements were restrained and we realized it was because of the bulk of the foam.

But this is a safety advantage for the children, which is our priority as parents.

Also...

Imagine being in the water and then suddenly feeling like creatures are creeping up your legs. So you check it out, only to find that it was the crotch strap wrapping around you.

Yikes!

There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to crotch straps but this one’s a little too long.

Yes, it’s adjustable, but the extra length of the strap will dangle around your kid’s legs - annoyingly.

But it’s only a minor inconvenience.

What’s best about it is…

The polyester isn’t irritating to the skin.

It’s a good choice for life jackets because polyester is water-resistant, unlike fabric made from a nylon shell. Less water absorption, less weight.

Another plus point...

The flotations are properly placed. They don’t move around and the zipper keeps the vest in place. Unlike the other cheaper brands on the market, there’s no need to re-adjust the Airhead vest every now and then.

Given, of course, that the size is right.

Overall, the Airhead Treasure Life Vest is comfortable, if a little too bulky for smaller kids.

3. Durability

What use are the straps if they just get torn off easily? None.

The materials used for the Airhead Treasure Life Vest are very resilient to force, especially the grab handles and the belts.

We would know.

Because we tried pulling at the waist belt and the grab handle of the Airhead vest with ample force - just for fun - and they remained intact and secure.

The grab handle was very useful in preventing a major catastrophe - two kids almost trampling each other while running.

So we concluded that they won’t give, even if you’re caught up in a current while you hold on to the grab handle of your baby’s life vest to bring them to safety.

However…

Polyester, as compared to nylon shell fabric, is less resilient to abrasive materials.

That said, the Airhead life vest will still survive the occasional wear and tear.

As compared to others…

The overall durability of the Airhead Treasure Life Vest is just as good as the more expensive ones.

4. Safety

You’re probably thinking of taking your little boy or girl for a swim, or boating, or simply just relaxing in a body of water.

But guess what - you’re scared!

You want assurance that your life jacket can actually save lives. This is a non-negotiable category, the one thing that you cannot compromise.

The Airhead vest got the highest score in terms of safety.

Why is that?

First of all, it is USCG approved. There’s no doubt whether it floats because it does.

The Coast Guard says so.

And we do too.

What else did we find?

Crotch straps are very much helpful to keep the life jackets on the wearers. Children, most especially, because their size poses the danger of slipping out of their vests.

The Airhead life jacket is a closed sided vest and that helps with keeping it wrapped around your child.

Moreover, even if your excited kid moves around in the water, the straps will remain fastened.

Durability is the criterion that’s most directly connected to safety. The Airhead life vest topped that category too.

We also mentioned earlier…

The bulk of this product was uncomfortable to the kids. But it kept them floating on their backs. Even as they dove and splashed around, they ended up facing upward, safe and sound.

Which is the whole point of wearing life jackets.

What’s concerning is that…

The lengthy crotch straps have a better chance of getting caught in between boat seats. If a child was wearing it, it could also easily be stepped and get trampled on.

This is the reason that we didn’t give it the perfect safety score.

Our advice is cut a little bit off, still making sure it’s within adjustable length.

But the overall safety of the Airhead Treasure Life Vest is without question.
